what do automated and manual unit test cases(uct) really mean?

I am creating a unit test case(UCT) for a software. Now I am confused by the term 'manual' and 'auto' in UCT. What do they really mean? And I have a unit test description which says user selects item from dropdown, does it belong to auto or manual UCT? Can someone please enlighten me please? Thank you so much :)
