Why do my unit tests using PowerMock don't produce consistent results?

I have some unit tests written in TestNG and using PowerMock with Mockito. I observed that the tests that use PowerMock are very inconsistent. In one run, the tests are successful, whereas in the next run some of the tests fail.

I have verified that I am following all the steps suggested to use PowerMock.
